16" wide WADKIN Jointer.
Only reason I am selling this machine is we have moved to Europe. We will be back in July for five weeks and am hoping to arrange a sale for then. This is a really great machine and would never have thought of selling it otherwise. The fence and tables are dead accurate and the machine leaves a smooth cut despite only two knives. The carbide knives are held in the cutter head in the conventional way but they have two slots that are captured by two setting screws. This was patented by Wadkin (Made in England) and it is really easy to set the knives on this machine. I wish all the straight knife machines had this system. Many many years of life left in the knives. The in and out feed tables are adjusted by large hand wheels that can be moved with a single finger. The fence is also adjusted in and out with a large hand wheel and locking lever. The fence is high for accuracy, rock solid and easily adjusted to angle. I contacted Wadkin years ago and they said the machine was manufactured in 1936. Everything is cast, machined very accurately and super stable and heavy. Perfect for fine woodworking.
I bought it in 2004 for $4,500 and then invested another $500 into a single phase 5hp Baldor motor and mag switch. Have been using it for about ten years and really appreciate having a jointer as wide as my planer. Makes surfacing wide boards easy and the accuracy and stability of this machine makes any jointing job no matter how small easy. I can't remember the exact bed length but it is either 5 or 6ft. I built a boat with it and it was perfectly adequate.
I am putting this ad up early as I want to make sure there is time to find a new owner for when I come back in July. The jointer is in storage and on a pallet so can't be started but easily accessable. I had Diamond Delivery move it from my shop for a very reasonable rate, think it was about $160 from Metchosin to Sidney to give you an idea of cost. Your not moving this machine on your pickup truck!
I could only find two photos of the machine in my files.
The price is $3,500 which I think it very fair. but It will last your lifetime and longer. By order of enquiry but I also really want it to go to a good home and due to interest OBO. Cash and in-person sale only. Viewing and sale will not be until July, please email questions until then. Best to include contact info as I do not know what happens to the CL email relay when I have to renew the ad. I will keep a list of interested people and contact you when I return.
